Saturday, Jan. 11, opening of the eighth centenary of the Canticle of the Creatures, also called the Canticle of Brother Sun, composed in 1225 by Francis of Assisi. It is the first poetic text in the vernacular language, considered among the foundations of Italian literature. An ode to creation and the beauty of nature, it is also a hymn to peace and fraternity.
The event will be held at 10 a.m. at the Sanctuary of San Damiano, where much of the Canticle was composed, followed by the Shrine of the Undressing in Assisi. Conclusion with moment at the Tomb of St. Francis.
