The Perdono di Assisi sees millions of pilgrims visiting the Porziuncola of Santa Maria degli Angeli to find peace and forgiveness. It all began one night in 1216 when, during a prayer in the small church, Francis prayed that anyone visiting the sacred building would be granted complete remission of their sins. The Lord would have granted Francis’ request on this condition as long as he received approval from the Pope, which was then granted by Pope Honorius III.
